Walter Charles “Chuck” Towle (1948-2021)

Walter Charles “Chuck” Towle, 73, of Kansas City, Missouri, went to meet his beloved Lord and Savior in the early morning hours of Friday, November 26, 2021, while hospitalized in Overland Park, Kansas.

The first child of James Irvin Towle and Elouise (Jeffers) Towle, Chuck was born at Moran, Kansas, on April 23, 1948. Although he spent much of his early childhood in and around Wichita, Kansas, Chuck may have found his most enduring home when his family moved to Mullinville, Kansas, at the beginning of the 1960’s.

Chuck flourished and grew to young manhood in Mullinville. Active in multiple sports as well as many academic activities, Chuck’s name and photograph are found repeatedly throughout the Mullinville High School “Tiger” yearbook. Although Chuck and his family moved after his graduation from Mullinville High School in 1966, Chuck remained fast friends with classmates throughout his life.

After high school, Chuck attended Wichita State University for a time, later transferring to Pittsburg State University where, in 1971, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Management.

After college, Chuck worked in a variety of capacities before returning to school to become a chiropractor in the early 1980’s. After earning a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Cleveland Chiropractic College of Kansas City in 1985, Chuck opened his own chiropractic office in Leawood, Kansas, that same year. Chuck was quietly proud of this practice which grew to include two additional practitioners and multiple support staff.

It was in his chiropractic office that Chuck first met patient and soon-to-be wife Sandra Sue “Sandy” Kennedy. The couple married in May 1995 and Sandy would remain Chuck’s wife and soulmate throughout the remaining 26 years of his life. A proud husband, Chuck never missed an opportunity to let friends and family know how much he loved, admired, and appreciated Sandy.

Health forced Chuck to sell his still-thriving office in 1999 and Chuck once again found himself working in a variety of different capacities. Chuck liked his work wherever he was and always gave it his best. Only in recent years, however, did Chuck find what he, his family, and his friends quickly recognized as the perfect fit. Chuck loved being around anything related to science and medicine almost as much as he loved being around people; his work with OptumRx provided the perfect opportunity to be around both.

In addition to his wife Sandy, Chuck is survived by his two children from a previous marriage, Steven Towle (Kat) of Oregon and Jennifer Tellez (Chris) of California; two step-children, Dana Burton of Lenexa, KS and Paul Kampschroeder (Tammy) of Overland Park, KS; his mother, Elouise Towle of Walnut Grove, MO; three sisters, Diane Stroud of Walnut Grove, MO, Margaret Wunderlin (Dave) of Joplin, MO, and Sheryle Bosley (Roger) of Clearwater, KS; his brother, James Irvin Towle, Jr. (Jacqueline) of Flat Rock, NC; and his six grandchildren.

A kind and gentle soul whose unselfish, helpful manner inspired trust and genuine affection in all whose lives he touched, Chuck gathered lifelong friends wherever he went. Loyal almost to a fault, Chuck never forgot nor discarded a friend. As he recently told one of his many friends, Chuck remained friends with every friend he ever had. These many lucky souls, too, are left to mourn his loss.
