Susan Senia Newth

September 7, 1960 — July 1, 2024

Lenexa, KS

Susan Senia Newth, aged 63, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on July 1st, 2024, at KU Medical Center. She was born on September 7th, 1960, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Dale and Carol Smith. She grew up in Los Angeles where she graduated from Granada Hills High School in 1978. She went on to attend Cal State Northridge where she met Robert Scutti who she married in 1990, and had two sons, Dale and Peter. The family moved to Olathe in 1994.

Dale and Peter were the lights of her life. Her greatest joy came from spending time with them. Their days growing up included hiking at Ernie Miller Park, McDonald’s at the pool, tickles, and baking cookies. She would dust the house to 80s music and even made the mundane chore of mopping into a game of slip and slide. She had a way of making the ordinary so fun and special.

Susan met the love of her life, Roger, working at Discover Vision Centers. Excited to start their new lives together, they married May 26th, 2015 at Church of the Harvest. Her years with Roger were some of the brightest years of her life and there was never a conversation that didn’t include her adoration of her “Superman”.

Her next great adventure was the role of Memaw. She loved her grandkids so much and worked hard to create special memories for them to treasure. She would invite them to Pizza Man followed by Ice Cream at a special shop by her house. She would “clean the sink” with an explosion of baking soda, vinegar, and food coloring. She often brought her Memaw bag filled with fun snacks and activities to do.

She lived such a full life. She worked as an ophthalmic assistant for fifteen years. Having lived with visual impairment her whole life, she was dedicated to helping people see better. She volunteered with project 20/20, helping the homeless and disadvantaged youth with eye exams. Susan was passionately in love with Jesus and always joyfully sharing her faith with anyone she encountered. She was an inspiration to many and her legacy will forever live on in the lives of those she loved.

She is survived by her husband, Roger Newth, children, Dale and Peter (Paige) Scutti, and grandchildren, Joey, Ian, and Hadley Scutti. She is also survived by her cousin Diana Palas and her brothers, Michael, David, and Peter Smith as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Family, friends, and others are invited to Lakeview Village, 14001 W. 92nd St., 5th Floor, Treetop Room, Lenexa, KS 66215, at 2pm on July 11th, to reminisce and honor the life of Susan.
