Rodger Gale Cletcher

September 10, 1961 — December 19, 2024

Kansas City, MO

Rodger Gale Cletcher, son of Carolyn Sue (Baker) and Roy Gayle Cletcher was born September 10, 1961, at St Mary’s Hospital in Kansas City, MO. He departed this life on December 19, 2024, at The University of Kansas Medical Center at the age of 63.

He was raised in Kansas City, MO and attended Center High School. He worked for several years as an auto mechanic before changing his career to Stone Mason. He was very proud of the landscaping and rock work they did in Loch Lloyd and other wealthy housing areas across the Kansas City area.

Being in nature was so important to Rodger. He said his best talks with God were in the woods. He especially loved the crisp, cool air of the Spring. He grew beautiful flowers and was very proud of his vegetables, especially his tomatoes. He loved to watch the variety of birds that came to his bird feeder. He also put out food for the deer that came into his yard frequently. Game cams allowed him to see the deer images and other animals, even in the dark.

He loved to fish, hunt with bow and rifle, and search for deer sheds. One of the things he loved the most was traveling to his parents’ hometown of Van Buren, MO. Rodger loved the view from Skyline Drive. The Current River drew him in … he loved anything to do with the river, whether it was swimming, floating, or fishing. Photography was a fun hobby, taking pictures and videos of these things, family, and several different nature scenes that caught his eye.

In 1990, Rodger met Debra Ryser at Lucky Strike Bowl in Kansas City. He said Debra was his soul mate and they were married on August 8, 1991. Even though they never had children, their babies were the five Dobermans they had raised over the years.

Debra was now Rodger’s partner with his outdoor activities. They had good friends that they spent time doing these things together with as well. They also loved to travel, going to Mexico on one trip. Traveling north to see the Northern Lights was one of their goals, but unfortunately, it was one trip they were never able to make in this lifetime. Debra and Rodger had a love that lasted for nearly 32 years of marriage before Debra passed on February 3, 2023.

Rodger loved his neighbors. He was quick with a laugh or helping hand and so enjoyed watching the children play. They formed a special bond over the years.

Rodger is preceded in death by his wife Debra Cletcher, both parents, brother Mark Cletcher, stepmother Christine Cletcher, stepbrother Michael Hollis, and stepbrother PR Hollis. He is survived by a son, Bocephus Cletcher, stepsister, Rebecca Arnold (Billy), nephew Ryan Cletcher (Caillie), aunts, uncles, and cousins. He will be greatly missed!
