Richard (Dick), peacefully passed at home on July 22, 2020. Dick is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, JoAnn, 3 children, Rick Howard (Karen), Becky Howard-Crotty (Jeff), Jessica Jones (Chris), 5 grandchildren, Hilary Taber (Jordan), Elizabeth Gillenwater (Cody), Tyler Bacon (Larienna), Cassie Prior, Douglas Howard and 3 great grandchildren, Drake, Levi and Bridgette, and Brother Greg Howard (Claudia).
Dick was born in Mexico, Missouri but lived in Kansas City, Missouri the majority of his life. He graduated from Southwest High School in 1957 and attended college in Rolla, Mo, where he studied engineering.
Dick was involved in numerous auto related businesses throughout the years, including Howard Automotive, Property Damage Appraisers and Avenue Auto Parts. He was in a country rock band called the Night Rockers in his early years and went on to play bass in another. His passion, however was sprint car racing. He was a champion car owner and driver, winning multiple championships over the years. Dick was an innovator in developing many ideas that are still used to this day and was inducted into the Central Auto Racing Boosters (C.A.R.B.) Hall of Fame in 2015 for his invaluable contributions to dirt track racing.
His passing will be felt not only by his family, but those in the racing community that loved and respected him.
