Richard Blake

October 1, 1942 — September 24, 2021

Richard (Dick) Ray Blake was born in Kansas City, Missouri, October 1, 1942 to Beauford Ray and Mary Louise Blake.   He passed ​in his sleep Sept 24, 2021.

Richard is survived by his brother Jack (Patricia) Blake of Raytown, his daughter Sherri (Gary) Davis of Raymore, his granddaughter Amber (Matt) Bramble and two granddaughters. Born Oct 1, 1942, he was lifelong resident of Kansas City.

Richard was a member of the National Guard until he was injured in a construction accident in 1968.  Richard survived 53 years as a paraplegic.  He was instrumental in the growth of many wheelchair activities in the area, especially the KC Wheelchair Bowlers.  Richard served as a board member and volunteer for many organizations including Southland Optimists, Easter Seals, Vietnam Veterans and the PVA.  Richard was a long term worker for the Southside Optimist Bingo as well as the Vietnam Veterans Bingo.

He helped many other disabled persons by installing hand controls and wheelchair lifts in their vehicles.  Richard loved cars and was active in the Corvette Club of KC as well as with custom vans, trucks, and dune buggy clubs.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his life partner Margaret Hammermill and her son Michael Baker.

Services will be private and the family requests donations to Disabled Veterans Organization.
