Paul Henry Small, Jr. of Lenexa, Kansas passed away at the age of 95 on October 4, 2022, at Kansas City Hospice House following a valiant battle with cancer.
Paul was born on August 21, 1927, to Paul Henry Small, Sr. and Opal Kerr Small in Rossville, Kansas. He was the third son of a family of four sons and two daughters. He was preceded in death by brothers James, Myers, Lee, sister Mary and is survived by a sister, Lillian Jepson.
He is also survived by his wife, Norma Jeane of Lenexa, and a daughter, Carolyn Sue Robb, of Chino Hills, California. Two children, Richard Small and Deborah Vaught preceded him in death. He had five grandchildren, Bryan Alan Robb of Incline Village, Nevada, Michael Duncan Robb of La Mesa, California, Magan Szwareck·of Berwyn, Illinois, and Lindsey Vaught and Jamie Mundell of Amarillo, Texas. He was preceded in death by grandson Andrew Small of Chicago, Illinois. He also had thirteen great grandchildren and three great- great grandchildren. He also had numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
Paul was a proud Navy veteran of World War II and received a Bronze Star for his actions in the Battle of the Philippines. After the war, he returned to Kansas and married Norma Jeane Shawgo. They were married for 76 years. He earned his college degree at Washburn University in Topeka and was employed for over 35 years by the Santa Fe Railroad, retiring as an engineer in their Communications Department in Topeka.
Paul had a full, active and happy life and career. He loved and enjoyed his wife, family, golf, baseball, traveling and church activities and being active in the Masonic and Shrine Organizations. He was a Charter Member of the World War II Museum in New Orleans. Funeral services are pending.
