Martha Highfill

Martha Helen (Blaukat) Highfill went to be with Jesus on January 7, 2023, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. She was born on January 30, 1941, in Joplin, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Golda (Kirk) Blaukat and her three siblings, Bertha Fern Hunter (Don), Kirk Blaukat (Darlene), and Charles Blaukat (Cora). She married the love of her life, Jackie L. Highfill on January 1, 1959, in Springfield, Missouri. They had a loving marriage and life together. She was a devoted mother to Jeffrey, Craig (Joan), and Todd, and proud grandmother of Adam (Bekah), Jacob (Kimdona), Tanner, and Kody. She was also survived by many nephews and two nieces, who were special to her among a family of boys.

Martha created a wonderful and nurturing home for her family. After her sons were grown, she worked several jobs in reception and retail, including working in the family business, Mail Plus. She enjoyed spending time with her extended family and many friends. Martha was very active in her churches over the years, Grandview United Methodist Church and was a founding member at Church of the Resurrection in Leawood.  Martha taught countless women's bible studies, served as a Stephen Minister and hospital visitor, and volunteered in many areas of hospitality which demonstrated her caring and generous nature. She truly had a servant’s heart. Martha will forever be remembered as a woman of faith by all who knew and loved her.

The family wishes to thank the staff members at Brookdale Alzheimer’s & Dementia Care Overland Park and Gentiva Hospice for their care and concern for Martha in her final days.

A celebration of life will be held on January 13, 2023, at 11:00 am at Wesley Covenant Chapel at the Church of the Resurrection, 13720 Roe Ave, Leawood Kansas. A reception will follow the service and the family invites all to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to celebrate Martha’s life by making a gift in her honor to the Resurrection Foundation.
