Juliann Forbes

June 10, 1932 — November 29, 2018

Juliann “Julie/Judy” Forbes (Lacina), 86, of Kansas City, Mo., died peacefully on November 29, 2018 at home with family by her side.

Julie lived a full and adventurous life — following her heart and living life on her terms. Julie loved all creatures four-legged and feathered, music, traveling the world, sports, a good political "discussion", the magic of the holidays, and most of all, her family.

Growing up on an Iowa farm and a graduate of Afton High, she often spoke fondly of her classmates, playing clarinet in the band and playing basketball -- as well as all the mischief she and her brothers, cousins and friends got into. She enjoyed returning to Afton every year to visit family and the land she grew up on.

Most of her adult years were lived in Wilmington, Del. where she raised two children (her greatest pride and joy). Just one of her many duties, as a Civil Servant, included writing tax code letters for then Delaware governor, Joe Biden. Julie also served as President of the Wilmington Symphony Women’s Auxiliary and the Wilmington Garden Club.

Upon retiring, she took off to see the world with her best friend, traveling to more than a dozen countries, exploring the sights, enjoying the food, learning about the cultures, and making new friends. Julie never met a stranger. She then settled in Kansas City, Mo. to be close to family and where she immediately became a loyal Chiefs and Royals fan.

Julie is survived by daughter Catherine Forbes (husband Phil Watkins) of Kansas City, Mo., son William "Bill" Forbes (wife Carolyn) of Indian Wells, Calif. and grandchildren Cameron Forbes and Michelle Forbes, both of San Diego, Calif. She was preceded in death by parents Anthony "Tony" Lacina and Marie Lacina (Koutsky), and brothers Jim and John Lacina, all of Afton, Ia.
