John Mccoy

John Leroy McCoy passed unexpectedly at his home Sunday, October 31, 2021.

John was born to Glynn Louis McCoy and L. Marietta Stevens McCoy on October 20, 1937 in Cushing, Oklahoma. John grew up and received his education in Oklahoma.

John followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the U.S. Navy in May 1956 and served for nine and a half years. After leaving the Navy, John began his career as an Aviation Instrument Technician in 1967 with TWA in Kansas City until his retirement in 1992.

John was a member of Winnwood Baptist Church, Kansas City, Missouri.

John is survived by his brother Nathan R. McCoy and wife Donna of Newkirk, Oklahoma, niece Natalie Welch of Ponca City, Oklahoma, nephew Raymond McCoy II of Kansas City, Missouri, great niece Meghan Stafford and family of Ponca City, Oklahoma, great niece and nephew Lily MCoy and Sterling McCoy of Kansas City, Missouri. John was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents Minor and C. Pearl Stevens and Nathan B. and Mary McCoy, brother Raymond McCoy, and niece Dawn MCoy-Brown of Ponca City, Oklahoma.

Cremation is being handled by Assurance Cremation Society, Kansas City, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials be made in John’s name to Winnwood Baptist Church or to a charity of your choice.

Memorial services will be held 2:00 pm, Thursday, November 11, 2021 at Winnwood Baptist Church, 4513 N. Jackson, Kansas City, Missouri, 64117.
