John Bonnel

John Edgar Bonnel, age 58, Winchester, KS passed away unexpectedly Saturday, April 17th on his farm. He was the youngest of six children to Sid and Deloris Bonnel, born in Atchison, KS on November 18th, 1962. He attended Jefferson County North and graduated Class of 1981. He was a member of the American Legion Post #242 and Teamsters Union #696.

John was a lifelong construction worker, farmer, and rancher. Most recently, he was employed by Mid-States Materials.

He married Darlene Weishaar in 1985 and had four children: Cody, Hunter, Denver, and Macie. They later divorced.

John was preceded in death by his mother and father. Survivors include his children Cody (Kelli) Bonnel of Shawnee, KS, Hunter (Kelsey) Bonnel, Denver (Faith) Bonnel both of Valley Falls, KS, and Macie Herrig of Kansas City, KS; grandchildren include Peyton, Ella, Ainsley, Oakley, Rhett, and Cohen; his siblings Cindy (Leo) Scherer, Dorothy Hobbs, Janet (Daniel) Neal, Rick (Donna) Bonnel, and Joe Bonnel.

John enjoyed boating and camping at the lake, taking care of his dogs, and spending time with his grandchildren. Other hobbies include tending to his cattle and working his ground.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Jefferson County Humane Society, Valley Falls FFA Club, or  Scholarship Fund for his grandchildren. Contributions can be mailed to 16965 Mooney Creek Road, Winchester, KS, 66097 or left Saturday at the Celebration of Life.
