JoAnn Marie Howard (Smith), aged 85, passed away on August 3, 2024, in Kansas City, Missouri after a short and unexpected illness. Born on July 11, 1939, in Kansas City, Missouri, she was a lifelong resident and a cherished member of the community. 

JoAnn dedicated her life to her family, embracing the role of homemaker with love and devotion. Her warmth and generosity touched all aspects of her life and made her home a welcoming place for many. JoAnn was known for her loving, compassionate, giving, and playful nature, which brought joy to those around her. 

She was an active member of Christ the King and St. Thomas More, where she participated in various community and church activities. JoAnn's hobbies included bowling, playing canasta, crafting ceramics, traveling, and spending cherished moments with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

JoAnn is survived by a loving family: son Richard D. Howard Jr. (Karen), daughters Rebecca J. Howard-Crotty (Jeff) and Jessica M. Jones (Chris); grandchildren Hilary Taber (Jordan), Elizabeth Gillenwater, Tyler Bacon (Larriena), Cassie Prior (Austin Jaco), Douglas Howard (Kelly); great-grandchildren Drake Gillenwater, Levi Bacon, Beau Jaco, Bridgette Bacon, Walker Taber, Sloan Gillenwater, Cory Jaco, and McCoy Taber; brother Ron Smith (Liz); sister Jeannine Parkinson; and brother-in-law Greg Howard (Claudia) and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard D Howard Sr. and her sisters Patricia Gilbert and Donna Popplewell. 

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 25, 2024, at 1 PM at 17801 Rolling Hills Rd, Belton, MO. A private funeral mass will take place at Little Sisters of the Poor. Assurance Cremation Society of Kansas City, Missouri, is assisting the family during this time. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor in memory of JoAnn Howard. Her legacy of love and caring will continue to inspire all who knew her.
