Jim Stewart, 64, of Kansas City, MO went home to be with the Lord on July 2, 2024, surrounded by his family. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, July 12, 2024 at 4pm at Redeemer Kansas City, 3921 Baltimore Avenue, Kansas City, MO 64111. In lieu of memorial contributions or flowers, please donate to your local Christian church or missions organization.
Jim was born July 16, 1959, the son of George and Mary Catherine Stewart, in Libertyville, Illinois and was raised in Glendora, California. Jim married Loellen Buck in 1981. After founding and growing a successful fence business in Southern California, Jim sold the business to follow the call to Christian pastoral ministry. He attended and completed pastoral training school at Calvary Chapel West Covina. In 1989, Jim and his family moved to Joplin, Missouri to plant Calvary Chapel Joplin where he pastored for nine years. Throughout his life as a pastor, Jim served the church through church planting, international missions, and disaster relief. In 2001, Jim became senior pastor of Calvary Chapel Kansas City where he served as senior pastor for the past 23 years. Jim passionately loved Jesus, sharing the gospel, and teaching the Bible. Jim’s great joy in life was his family. He was a faithfully devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Stewart and Mary Catherine Stewart, and by his granddaughter, Cecilia Margaret Stewart. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Loellen and their three sons: Chris Stewart and wife Katie Stewart, Mitch Stewart and wife Danica Stewart, and Cory Stewart; six grandchildren George, Adeline, Penelope, Everett, Josiah, and Owen; his brother, Scott Stewart and wife Barbara Stewart; his sister, Barbara Jenson and husband Greg Jenson; and many beloved extended family members.
