James Gibeson Jr.

January 26, 1956 — November 28, 2020

James “Jim” Eugene Gibeson, Jr. passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2020.

Jim was 64 years old and born in Kansas City, Missouri to Remona (Hill) Gibeson and James Eugene Gibeson, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Ginger (Shepherd) Gibeson; his five children - Melody Gibeson, Misty (Chris) Ayers, Matthew (Allison) Gibeson, Mitchell (Graciel) Gibeson, and Mark Gibeson; five grandchildren; and two brothers, Thomas Gibeson and Melvin Gibeson.

Jim worked for 35 years as a delivery truck driver for UPS Air Freight and retired in 2016. He also served in the United States Air Force from 1974 to 1979 as a munitions systems specialist (461-AMMO).

Jim was an active member of Southview Baptist Church in Raytown, Missouri where he could be found helping with numerous children’s ministries. His passion for the Lord was evident in the countless lives of children he touched and helped lead to Christ. He had a special place in his heart for the elderly as well and was always the first to volunteer to help if they needed anything.

Jim had a fondness for Disney movies, crossword puzzles, fixing lawn mowers, BBQ food, and his wife’s cherry dump cake. He had a bad case of wanderlust and was always looking for an excuse to go for a drive. Out of his many roles, his favorite was being a grandpa to his five grandchildren: Avery, Cayson, Daxtyn and Brysan Ayers and Lucas Gibeson. Nothing made him happier than when he was surrounded by their smiles and laughter.

As in his life, he will continue to help others in his death. Jim had requested to be an organ donor and the following tissues will be used to increase the livelihood of others:

the pericardium sac (to help someone else's heart)
bone and tissue from arms and legs to help cancer victims
skin grafts from the leg and back to help burn victims
vessels from legs to help dialysis patients
both corneas to help two people be able to see again

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Remona (Hill) Gibeson, his brothers David Bennett and Jerry Gibeson, his sister Deborah VanArkel and a son or daughter.

Jim will be cremated and a memorial will be held at a future to-be-determined date. In honor of Jim and his love of children, the family requests that any donations be made to Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child. www.samaritanspurse.org/memorial-page/james-gibeson-kansas-city-mo/
