Jackie Greene

October 30, 1935 — February 8, 2023

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our father Jackie Lee Greene, I on February 8th, 2023.  Born on October 30th, 1935, in Westline, Missouri to parents Ralph Emerson Greene and Cora Fern Greene (Masterson); three sisters; Hazel Wise (Harvey) Louisburg, KS; Velma Cook (Jack) Freeman, MO and Kay Smith (J.W.) Harrisonville, MO.

Jack graduated from Freeman High School in Freeman, Missouri in 1953 where he lettered in basketball.  After graduating, Jack joined the United States Army serving for 2 years (1957 – 1959) in Panama and then 8 years in the reserves; discharging as Specialist 4th Class.

After leaving the military, Jack worked at Delco Battery in Olathe, KS for 15 years, then as a Truck Driver at Sysco Foods of Kansas City.  Retiring after 15 years; in 2006 Jack began work helping rebuild the levees in the Ninth Ward of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.  Once finished, Jack retired for the second and final time in 2008.

Our Dad worked hard his entire life, instilling that same value in all his children.  He spent many years at the Spring Hill Ballfields in Spring Hill, KS watching his children play baseball or softball while keeping those fields in tip top shape. His favorite family activity was camping, going multiple times a year.  Dad would cook all weekend making the best camping food you ever had.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents & siblings, one son (Marty Greene) and one grandson (Trae Greene).  Jack is survived by his wife Brenda Sprague of the home, Children Janet Britton (Danny) of Noel, MO; Jackie Greene, II (Samantha) of Louisburg, KS; Brandon Hale (Kim) of Lee’s Summit, MO; Tami Benedict (Gary) of Spring Hill, KS; JD Greene (Heather) of Rogers, AR,

and Robin Jones (JJ) of Kansas City, KS.  He was well loved and will be greatly missed by his 28 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday March 25th, 2023, at the Wild Rye KC Ranch located at 31465 W. 127th St. Olathe, KS from 1:00 – 4:00pm.  Food will be provided, all are Welcome.
