Carl Richard Miller

February 7, 1948 — December 6, 2024

Kansas City, MO

Rich Miller, 76, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on December 6, 2024, holding the hand of his beloved wife and listening to one of his favorite hymns. The service will be on Monday, December 9, 2024 at 6 P.M. in the Multipurpose Room at the International House of Prayer Kansas City, 3535 East Red Bridge Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64137. In place of flowers, Rich requested gifts given for the care and support of his wife of 35 years, Joyce Miller.

Rich was born February 7, 1948, the son of Carl and Lois Miller, in Rochester, Indiana, and lived there throughout his childhood. After high school at Caston High School, he attended two years of accounting school before working as an accountant at a taxicab company in Fort Wayne, Indiana. After encountering the love of Jesus and becoming a new creation in Him, Rich felt a calling to become a pastor. Rich attended Bible school at Life Christian Bible College in St. Louis, Missouri, graduating in June 1984 before taking a pastorate at Living Faith Church in Rochester, Indiana. While attending a training for inductive Bible study leaders held in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Rich met Joyce Anderson. After six months of daily letter exchanges and weekly phone calls, the couple married in Joyce’s hometown of Shelby, North Carolina, on July 7, 1989. From that union, they have five children. Rich and Joyce served as pastors for 26 years before relocating with their family to Kansas City, Missouri, to join the International House of Prayer in Kansas City (IHOPKC) community in May 2010. Rich enjoyed worshiping Jesus, participating in small groups, dabbling in hobby farming, and discussing theology with friends and family.

His brother, Dale Miller and his son, Nathan Miller, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, and their four other children: daughter Sarah Ambrose and husband Timothy, daughter Rebekah Miller, daughter Hannah Lindsay and husband Ian, and son Jeremiah Miller; and four grandchildren, Elijah Miller, Isabella Lindsay, Ivy Lindsay, and Ava Lindsay; his sister, Susan Garpow and husband Daniel; his brother, Phillip Miller; sister-in-law, Creola Pearson and husband Tommy, and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the IHOPKC community for their amazing support and care for Rich and Joyce through the many years of his illness. Additional appreciation to the caregivers of Kansas City Hospice House for providing compassionate care in his final days. Condolences may be left for the family below.
