Carl (Gene) McCullough, MSGT USAF Retired, 88, of Kansas City, MO, departed on his final flight
December 2, 2019.
Carl was born to Carlton and Fay McCullough on October 9, 1931 in Knox City, MO. He graduated from Paseo High School in 1949. He attended University of Nebraska-Lincoln before leaving to enlist in the military. Carl is survived by his wife, Ruth of 60 years. He leaves as his legacy 4 children: Michael (Kathy) McCullough of Overland Park KS, Melissa McCullough of Charlotte NC, Martha (Brian) Miller of Kansas City MO, Susie (Glenn) McCullough of Winterville NC, and many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren who remember him as Nampa. He also leaves to cherish his memory sisters, Emma Ladenburger of Mariposa CA and Sue Boyer of Sierra Vista AZ.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings Paul McCullough and Genrose McCullough.
Carl proudly served in the USAF for 21 years, mostly overseas. During the Cold War, he was involved
in intelligence gathering operations with the results reported directly to the National Security Agency (NSA). He was stationed in Turkey (Incirlik Air Base) for 9 years and Taiwan (Shu Lin Kou Air Base) for 5 years where he met and married his wife. He spent most of the remainder of his career at Richards-Gebaur AFB.
Carl later worked for and retired from TWA where he was a Systems Analyst.
Carl was a stroke survivor and volunteered in many studies at KU Medical Center to support the advancement of stroke recovery.
He will be sadly missed but will live on in our hearts forever.
Cremation with private memorial services. Interment at La Belle Cemetery in La Belle MO.
